Create a multimedia CD

It exists numerous methods, more or less sophisticated, to create a multimedia CD. The exposed method hereafter presents the particularity of being extremely simple to implement. She consists to :

1) Copy on the CD the different multimedias files concerned (images, sounds, texts, videos, web site ...);
2) Create then to copy on the CD a file "index.html", assigned to serve as menu to call those different files;
3) Create then to copy on the CD a text file "index.bat", assigned to run automatically the file "index.html";
4) Create then to copy on the root of the CD a text file "autorun.inf", assigned to run automatically the CD as soon as this one is put in the CD drive.

In the following example, we will suppose that the CD is assigned :
- To run a video and a music files ( "video.wmv" and "musique.mp3" for instance );
- To display a photo file ("photo.png" for instance );
- To open a copy (saved on the CD) of your web site ( "site.html" for instance );
Of course you can modify this example to better fit to your particular case.

Copy the multimedias files on the CD

Begin to collect, in a directory, the multimedias files to copy (remark: if the files have not been created by you and if they are not free of use, verify that you are well authorized to effect a copy...)

Create, then copy on the CD, the file "index.html"

The file "index.html" can be created with the Windows notepad. His contents, here voluntarily reduced to the minimum, is indicated hereafter. You can well improve him, doing appear a background color or an image on the page or replacing clickable texts by images for instance.

Create, then copy on the CD, the file "index.bat"

The file "index bat" can also be created with the Windows notepad. His contents is here voluntarily minimizes , so it is simply :

start index.html

Create, then copy on the CD, the file "autorun.inf"

The file "autorun.inf" can also be created with the Windows notepad. His contents is here voluntarily minimized, so it is simply :

[autorun]
open=index.bat

Once these operations are ended, the copied files must appear on the root of your CD.

If you want to create directories on the CD, for example a directory containing video files, and a directory containing photos, you must take this in account into the HTML file. For instance, with a directory named "videos" containing the file "video.wmv", the file index.html would have following content.
