You can need to emulate, on your computer, the working of a Texas Instrument (TI) graphing calculator for diverses reasons : by convenience when you work on your computer, your calculette TI serving you especially during your travels or to see how works the TI graphics calculators, before buying one;
To the date of writing those lines, Sourceforge.net proposes, in download on his site, a free tool ( GPL license) called TiEmu who emulates the working of the TI89 and TI Travels 200 graphing calculators on an computer equiped with Windows or Linux.
We will see how to download, install and use this tool. For that we will have to :
1) Download and install Tiemu;
2) Download the OS calculators (Operating System);
3) Configure Tiemu.
To find the sourceforge.net site, from which you will be able to download TiEmu, tape "tiemu sourceforge" in the textbox of the Google motor search.
Once you are on the sourceforge web site, follow the indicated links to download the file.
After having clicked the last link, wait during a few instant (wait sometimes until 1 or 2 minutes, when the download site is already requested by other persons...). After a while, the file to download ("tiemu-3.02a-win32-setup.exe") will be automatically proposed. Click the button "Enregistrer". This will save the file on your hard disk.
Once the file is downloaded, click it to install TiEmu.
To work, TiEmu requires the presence on your computer of GTK+ (GIMP Tool Kit) which is a free library (licence GNU LGPL) containing a set of graphic functions. If GTK+ is not installed on your computer, TiEmu will propose you to install it automatically. In that case verify that you are well connected to internet, and click the OK command button.
Wait a moment (be patient because it is possible that the host server would be already busy...). In general, after a maximum of 1 or 2 minutes, a dialogbox, proposing you to download and to install GTK+, will display on your screen. Click "Next", then follow the "Next" and "Install" buttons which will appear in the successif screens.
When the installation of GTK+ will be terminated, you will see the final dialogbox. Click the command button "Finish".
At this moment, the installation of TiEmu will continue automatically. Click "Next".
In the following screens, click the buttons "Next" and "Install", and TiEmu will now install himself automatically. When the installation of Tiemu will be terminated, you will see the final dialogbox. Click the button "Finish".
To emulate the working of TI89 and TI Voyage 200 calculators, TiEmu requires the presence, on your computer, of the operating systems (OS) of those calculators. Don't be anxious, those OS do not occupy many places and are contained in the files "os.v2u" for the TI Voyage 200, "os.89u" for the TI89 and "TI89Titanium_OS.89u" for the TI89 model titanium.
To the date of writing those lines, those files are proposed in free download on the Texas Instrument web site .
Click the link "Calculatrices graphiques", then the link "details" in the part "TI Voyage" (for instance ), then in the part "Téléchargements" click the link "Systèmes d'exploitation".
The operating system of the TI Voyage 200 (file "os.v2u") will be proposed you in download. Click the button "Enregistrer" and save this file on your hard disk (on C: for instance )
You can execute the same operations to download the OS file of the TI89.
Run TiEmu. This one searches immediately the operating system that it must use. In the window "Set ROM Version", click the button "Ajouter".
Choose the file "os.v2u", that you have download, if you want to emulate the TI Voyage 200 calculator (or the file "os.89u" if you want to emulate the TI89) then click the button "valider".
The select calculator appears then, ready to be used.
