A directory (folder) is simply a sort of drawer placed on the hard disk of your computer (for example) and in which you can store and keep any sorts of files (texts, pictures, musics, Videos) even if your computer is off.

Create a directory

You will go to create, on the hard disk C: of your computer, a new called directory "2008 " (for example). Click "Démarrer/Poste de travail" (Start/My Computer)..

In the window "Poste de travail" (My Computer), click (2 times quickly enough) "Disque local (C:)" ( Local Disk (C:) ).

You arrive then in the window "Disque local (C:)".

Click inside this window, with the right button of the mouse. In the pop-up menu which opens, select The option of menu " Nouveau/Dossier" (New Folder).

The new directory appears immediately, with the name " Nouveau dossier" which is attributed by default by Windows.

We are going to replace this name by the name "2008 ". Click the directory with the right button of the mouse; in the pop-up menu which opens, select the option "Renommer" (Rename).

image6

Place the mouse cursor just to the left of the N of "Nouveau". Click with the left button to fix the cursor in this Position, then type "2008" just before "Nouveau". At this step the new directory must present the following aspect.

Press the keyboard touch "Suppr" to delete the letters "Nouveau dossier" situated to the right of "2008". At this step the new directory must present the following aspect.

Click twice (with the left button of the mouse) in the window " Disque local (C:) " (Local disk (C:)). The creation of the new directory is ended. You can naturally rename it when you want, by using the menu option "Renommer" (Rename).

If you click twice the directory (with the left button of the mouse) his content will appear. In the present case this one is empty. This is is normal because we just come to create hit and we have put nothing inside.

By following the method which we have just seen, you can create all the directories and the sub-directories (directory placed in another directory) which you will need.

Delete a directory

To delete a directory, click its name and (with the help of the right button of the mouse) select the option "Supprimer" (Delete).

It will be ask to you to confirm this action. Click "Yes".

The directory is immediately deleted from the hard disk and transfered in the "Recycle Bin" of Windows. You can get back it as long as you will not have emptied the "Recycle Bin".

Notes:
--------
- When you delete a directory, you also delete all the files which it contains. Before deleting a directory, think of saving the files which it contains and that you want to keep.
